Nostalgic music festival with Sting...

Who can make Liseberg sound like a big nostalgic music festival? The correct answer is an Englishman with Sting who has a songbook that takes several days to play.

- Hello Gothenburg!

That's all Sting needed to say to get the fans going when he started the concert at 8 pm on Wednesday evening. At that time, there was a large crowd from Stora Scenen all the way up to Liseberg's Wärdshus, despite a persistent drizzle. Everyone also looked like they wanted to be an arm's length away from the living legend.

The couple Carita Nordling and Kristoffer Kajler were out well in advance of the evening's highlight. They had arrived at 7 pm to get good seats and stood about 20 meters from the stage with high expectations.

- I think it will be a great concert. Sting has a wide audience. That's because his songs range from rock to more quiet material, explained Kristoffer Kajler.

And it was a cavalcade of songs. With hits such as 'Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic', 'Roxanne', 'Message In A Bottle' and 'Englishman In New York', it was probably not difficult to get a grateful audience singing along and clapping their hands. It was rewarded with long applause and boos.

Even the lesser-known songs made many smile and sway to the beat of their bodies. And so it continued when Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner, as he is actually called, delivered from the stage. That Sting has a long career behind him was also evident in the age of the audience, which started around the 30s and went up to 60 plus. Of course, there were also younger listeners, but in the minority. The song library began from his time as frontman for The Police in the late 70s until later years.

The gang of friends Madeleine Johansson, Karin Tunfors and Johan Westerlund were more than satisfied with the 61-year-old Englishman's visit to Gothenburg.

- This was awesome, what a good voice he has, praised Madeleine Johansson.

Johan Westerlund, who is also a musician, listened with an extra ear to Sting's drummer, Vinnie Colaiuta.

- He is incredibly talented. Wow!
