The legendary Sting revisited his hits...
The British star returned to the Rockhal, where his hits and those from The Police delighted the 6,000 fans.
"This concert has been planned for 1,000 days, so thank you for your patience," Sting told a crowd that was completely behind him. After two years of the pandemic, it was Covid that had once again caused the Luxembourg date of his "My Songs" tour to be postponed last June. But on Saturday, the 6,009 fans were finally able to enjoy this long-awaited moment.
Like his bass, Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner, his real name, is cut from solid wood. And the years seem to have had little effect on him. Supported by his musicians and backing singers, including his son Joe Sumner, the slender septuagenarian in his tight-fitting T-shirt kicked off with two timeless mega-hits, "Message in a Bottle" and "Englishman in New York." On the latter, the phrase "Be Yourself, No Matter What They Say" was sung in unison, like a mantra.
On this tour, and on the album "My Songs," Sting revisits his repertoire at will. Both the classics of his band the Police and his own. And that's simply what fans want. The moving 'Fields of Gold' rubbed shoulders with the energetic 'Brand New Day', and the ethereal 'Shape of My Heart' was performed as a duet with an R&B singer. The British star reserved a veritable fireworks display of hits to conclude, with 'So Lonely', 'Every Breath You Take' and 'Roxanne' as an encore.
