The legend Sting takes Musilac...
To mark its second day, Musilac treated itself to Sting. And when the rock legend rubs shoulders with the French public, sparks fly. Postponed.
No need to introduce Sting. The British artist is one of those artists who, whether we like them or not, leaves a lasting impression on us. We've all hummed a Police tune, we've all screamed "Roxane" in front of Moulin Rouge (when we're young and didn't know the Police). So, of course, Sting is firmly rooted in the musical landscape.
After Vianney's applauded performance on the Lake Stage, he clearly arrived on familiar ground. But that didn't stop him from delivering a concert worthy of his reputation.
When he entered the stage, Sting greeted the crowd in perfect French. In front of him, thousands of people were crammed in front of the stage. Everyone came to applaud him, and what stands out is the diversity of the audience: the older crowd came to hear the best of The Police, while the younger crowd was waiting for his most recent hits. Besides, Sting didn't just come for nostalgia: he has an album to champion. Released in 2016, 57TH & 9TH had carved out a nice spot for itself in the charts.
Juggling Police hits (Synchronicity II, Message in a Bottle, Spirits in the Material World, and Walking on the Moon) with his own songs (Englishman in New York, Can't Stop Thinking About You), Sting delivers a show that lives up to his reputation: it's rock, energetic, raw, and at the same time, generous. When you see him like that, in the middle of the stage with just his guitar and a T-shirt, Sting looks so normal he could blend in. Yet, he's a legend—a true legend. Because he's not alone on stage, he took care to introduce his band (note that his son is a member and seems as talented as his father).
For an hour and a half, he holds the crowd like no one else. And the best part is, it was just the few thousand people scattered throughout the festival grounds. On the lake, dozens of boats gather to watch the concert. In short, Sting delivered a concert that, we're sure, will leave a lasting impression in Aix-les-Bains.
